In “Going Inside,” the Delirium story from Endless Nights, the Homeless Man sees a bird fly into a window. He believed that the bird had a message for him attached to its leg and that the bird killed itself to prevent the message from being discovered by someone else.
The bird is then eaten by a stray dog, which only proves to the Homeless Man that the whole thing was planned.
This is one of the many birds that appears in the Sandman Universe and Max did a great job with it. I am glad that Max decided to capture the likeness of the bird prior to its suicide…
