Man # 60 (illustrated by Lars Brown)

One evening, Richard Madoc, a celebrated author, was confronted by Dream who demanded the release of his prisoner, Calliope. When Madoc refused, his life began to spiral out of control.

On his way to a party, Richard stopped by a newspaper stand to buy a Time Out and Standard. The first of the never ending flow of ideas began crashing through his mind as he attempted to buy the paper.

This is man was one of the people who witnessed Richard Madoc’s first moments of his severe inundation of ideas. He fell to his knees, overwhelmed, as this man watched.

He appears in Sandman # 17, on page 19, in panel 5.

Fireman # 10 (illustrated by Xaveria)

In Brief Lives, Dream and Delirium travel through the mortal world in search of their missing brother, Destruction.

Along the way they stop at a hotel to rest and during their stay the hotel catches on fire. This Fireman is one of the men who worked to extinguish the blaze.

He appears in Sandman # 44, on page 24 in panel 1.

Dog (illustrated by Kai Martin)

After speaking to Scott Free and J’ohnn J’ohnz at the Justice League Embassy in Manhattan, Dream travels to the small town of Mayhew where he hopes to recover his ruby.

He is a passenger moving through dreams, moving from Manhattan to Delaware, where a small dog dreams of a past life where he sailed on ships across the sea.

This dog appears in Sandman # 5 on page 18, in panel 4.

Dead Man # 238 (illustrated by Anna Hybsier)

Orpheus went into the depths of the Underworld to rescue Eurydice. As he approached the throne room of Hades and Persephone he encountered a large gathering of the dead.

To implore the rulers of the Underworld to release his deceased wife, Orpheus sang a song about love and loss. This song caused the dead to weep and some even rose into the air.

This Dead Man is one of the many weeping dead men in the Underworld.

He appears in The Song Of Orpheus, on page 33, in panel 3.

Bird # 4 (illustrated by Carl Sciacchitano)

When Nada fails to discover the identity of the mysterious stranger who was standing below her window, she enlists in the help of The King Of Birds to discover who this man is.

This is one of the birds searching for the stranger.

This bird appears in Sandman # 9 on page 8 in panel 4.

I am not familiar with bird species, particularly African birds and so I am unsure what type of bird appears in the published comic.

The Monk At The Funeral # 2 (illustrated by Anna Hybsier)

In order to save the life of The Fox, the Monk enters The Dreaming and makes an agreement with Dream to allow the Fox to be released from the trap created by the Onmyoji and to allow him to take her place.

When the Fox awakes she discovers the Monk, still asleep, and she stays by his side until he died.

There was a little funeral for the Monk at his temple and he was buried on the mountainside beside the previous monks who cared for the temple.

This monk is one of the men who attended the funeral.

He appears in the P. Craig Russell version of Dream Hunters in issue # 4, on page 5, in panel 5. The funeral for the Monk is also described in the Amano version of Dream Hunters on page 110.

Judy Garland is a popular American actress, who stared in over 40 films between the 1930’s and 1980s. Some of her memorable roles incluse Hush Hush…Sweet Charlotte and Watcher In The Woods.

Within the Sandman Universe Bette Davis appears in the dreams of Hal Carter.

As Rose, the dream vortex, begins to accidentally cause damage to The Dreaming, Hal dreams of Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland. They came to tell him a secret. Just as they were about to tell him the secret he woke up and lost the dream.

Bette Davis appears in Sandman # 15, on page 8, in panel 2.

Hanged Man # 1 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

In July of 1794 Johanna Constantine is arrested for conspiring against the French government during the Revolution.

The French soldiers search her modest living quarters for the head of Orpheus, which she rescued at the request of Dream.

Louise St. Just interrupts the search and offers to escort Johanna to Luxembourg, which is a prison for political prisoners.

As their carriage travels down the street, they pass a courtyard where an execution is taking place. This man is being hanged.

He appears in Sandman # 29 on page 8 in panel 5.

Onmyoji’s Demon Servant # 11 (illustrated by Lars Brown)

The Onmyoji was afraid, and the fear drove him to seek forbidden knowledge in hopes of driving out that fear.

It did not work, and potentially caused even more fear.

In the outskirts of his city there were three women who loved in an old run-down house. The one of the women was young, one was old and the third was neither young nor old. He visited these three women to seek advice on finding peace and a release from the fear. They provided him with a way to gain the strength of a monk in the mountain who feared and desired nothing.

The Onmyoji had to perform a ritual in order to kill the Monk, but needed some personal objects of the monk in order to complete the rite.

The Onmyoji sent his demon servants into the mountains in order to steal a few items that the Monk had touched.

This is one of the demons who was sent to gather the belongings of the Monk.

He appears in P. Craig Russell’s Dream Hunters # 2, on page 12, in panel 6.

While Dream, Destruction and the original Corinthian visited the waking world around 1699, Dickon Hawksthorne, a young thief, attempted to steal Dream's ruby. When caught, Hawksthorne spoke rather harshly to the Dream King.

This man is one of the men who gathered around and witnessed the brief confrontation.

He appears in Sandman # 44, on page 18, in panel 1.

Fundamentalist # 5 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

As John Dee takes control of the Dream Ruby, causing chaos throughout the world, a group of Fundamentalists, in New York City, kneel in the streets and beg God to not forsake them during the end of the world.

They felt that the chaos was the result of Armageddon and that they were not taken by the rapture, but were instead left on earth.

This Fundamentalist appears in Sandman # 7, on page 2, in panel 3.

Aurelian Citizen # 27 (illustrated by Xaveria)

Cluracan is sent, by Queen Titania, to Aurelia to prevent an alliance between the numerous Plains.

He recalled Aurelia as being one of the greatest cities of the Plains. It was a city of influence and class. It has magnificent palaces and grand temples. The city has wide streets and fountains surrounded by green parks and beautifully carved marble statues. It was a glorious city to visit.

Unfortunately when Cluracan returns many years later the city is not quite as glorious as he remembered.

This man is standing on the steps of one of the temples, in Cluracan’s recollection of the beauty of the city.

He appears in Sandman # 52, on page 3, in panel 1.

El Dorado (illustrated by Lars Brown)

In Sandman # 14, a host of serial killers descend upon a quiet hotel for a convention for people who take pleasure in killing others.

This convention is eerily similar to other conventions, both professional and fan conventions in the sense that they have panels and discussions regarding a variety of topics relating to death and killing.

El Dorado is one of the serial speaking at one of the panels. He is part of the 3:30pm panel discussing sanity and mental abnormalities in a panel called “There Is No Sanity Clause.” El Dorado is on the panel with Candy Man and Psycho-Killer.

He appears in Sandman # 14 on page 26, in panel 3.

It is not known why or how El Dorado selects and kills his victims, but he certainly appears to be a frightening person.

Reporter # 1 (illustrated by Anna Hybsier)

Kathy, Prez Rickard’s fiancé was killed by a woman obsessed with Ted Grant.

Prez, of course, did not hold any ill will toward Ted Grant.

After his Presidency ended Prez became reclusive and eventually disappeared, after being asked to become the newly elected President’s aid.

Reporters immediately began trying to determine where Prez went and even went as far to question Ted Grant since he had known Prez and likely had connections to help Prez disappear. Ted Grant did not know where Prez went.

This is one of the reporters who tried to get information regarding Prez’s disappearance out of Ted Grant.

This reporter appears in Sandman # 54, on page 17, in panel 4.

Dead Man # 132 (illustrated by Kai Martin)

After the death of his beloved wife, Orpheus travels to the Underworld, hoping to reclaim his lost love.

As he moves further through the Underworld he begins to encounter the dead.

This Dead Man is one of the many that resides in the Underworld and encounters Orpheus when he stands before Lord Hades and Queen Persephone and implores them to return Eurydice to him.

He appears in The Sandman Special # 1, on page 31, in panel 2.

Demon # 183 (illustrated by Hayden Sengua)

This is one of the Demons that appear in Ramadan, inside the Globe Of Sulaiman Ben Daoud, which Haroun al Raschid threatens to shatter if The King of Dreams does not appear before him.
If this globe is broken, nine thousand and nine Ifrits, Djinn and Demons will be released into the world and cause untold chaos.
This demon is one of the many demons imprisoned within the globe.
You can find this Demon in Sandman # 50, on page 17, in panel 4.

The Bottle Imp (illustrated by Lars Brown)

The Bottle Imp is a resident of The Dreaming who lives in the House Of Secrets with Abel.

In Brief Lives, Dream is lamenting the ending of his relationship with Thessaly.

After more than a week of rain, reflecting Dream’s melancholy, parts of The Dreaming begin to flood, particularly the cemetery and the area surrounding the House Of Secrets and Mystery.

Abel makes the best of the situation, but trying to move his furniture away from the rising waters within his house. He made enough sandwiches for two weeks and brought fishing rods for Goldie and The Bottle Imp who are sitting on a shelf above the water.

The Bottle Imp appears in Sandman # 42 on page 6.
