Dainichi-Nyorai (illustrated by Max Rugers)

Dainichi-Nyorai is the central deity of Esoteric Buddhism. Dainichi is worshiped as the supreme primordial sun Buddha and appears as the central figure of the Five Wisdon Buddhas.

In Sandman: Dream Hunters, The Fox protected the dreams of the Monk from the Onmyoji’s magics. As a result of her sacrifice, one morning the Monk found the Fox laying, eyes losed, stretched across the doorway of his temple.

The Monk prayed to Buddha and to Kishibojin, Dainichi-Nyorai and Binzuru Harada, hoping that this prayers would awaken the Fox, but they did not.

Dainichi-Nyorai was mentioned in the Yoshitaka Amano’s version of Dream Hunters on page 62 and is also mentioned and shown in P. Craig Russell’s version of Dream Hunters in issue # 2, on page 25, in panel 1.
