The Watter Women (illustrated by Max Rugers)

When Cluracan is sent to Aurelia, he travels through Faerie before leaving the realm.

The Watter Women live in the Fens that border Faerie toward Dusk.

As Cluracan passed, the Watter Women screamed and their hands rose from the ooze waving and grasping at the Faery.

The Watter Women appear in Sandman # 52, on page 6, in panel 2.

I love this portrait from Max. He definitely made these characters creepy. Like with many of Max’s portraits, this one is built from torn scraps of paper and tape giving it a depth and texture. In some instances the texture is raised significantly from the original paper. It’s really a cool effect.
