Jed has lived with their father, but after their dad died in a car accident, Jed went to live with their paternal Grandfather, Ezra Paulsen, who was a lighthouse keeper on an island.
Ezra Paulsen was 82 when he died, from drowning. At this point, Jed went missing.
Rose reflects that their Grandfather sounded like a “nice old guy” and looked a lot like Santa Claus in the only photo she has of him.
Ezra Paulsen appears in a photograph in Sandman # 11 on page 8 in panel 4.
