Eve’s Raven (illustrated by Max Rugers)

Dream returns to his realm after being held in captivity by Roderick, and later Alex Burgess, to find his kingdom in disrepair.

Lucien gives Morpheus an update on the residents of The Dreaming.

He tells him that the Raven Woman has decayed badly and lives in nightmares. I believe that the Raven Woman Lucien is referring to is Eve, who lives in a cave within The Dreaming.

This Raven is Eve’s raven.

It is worth mentioning that this is not Matthew The Raven. This unnamed raven would be Matthews predecessor, since Matthew Cable was killed and granted the possibility of rebirth in Swamp Thing # 84, which was published in March 1989 and this raven appears in Sandman # 2, which was published in February 1989. However, according to the Sandman Audible Drama, this raven is Matthew, as Eve calls out to her raven saying "Here, Matthew, Hush." This line was not in the published comic.

The final fate of this raven is not known.

Eve’s Raven appears in Sandman # 2, on page 14, in panel 2.

I love this portrait from Max. I really like how he can accurately draw this raven and give it so much energy and emotions with the use of his colors and positioning of the character. I love the texture for this portrait and the dark branches in the background. This is an absolutely lovely raven.
