Lizzie and the Tourists From Kansas # 1 & 2 (illustrated by Lars Brown)

Happy New Year!!!

To celebrate the new year I thought I would post a new portrait every hour-ish from 6:00am to 9:00pm. What better way to start the new year than seeing a bunch of new art?

I hope everyone has a fantastic start to 2018 and that it's better than last year!!!

*****

In September 1859, Joshua Norton proclaimed that he was the first Emperor Of The United States.

Sixteen years after his reign began, in September 1875, he was walking in the park and three tourists from Kansas stopped Norton and asked if he was the Emperor. They asked if he still did “that money thing.” Emperor Norton charged $.50 for a $.50 note from the Imperial Government of Norton. The tourists were excited about their souvenier.

Norton actually did create his own currency, which apparently was accepted as local currency in San Francisco. This currency came in multiple demoninations between fifty cents and ten dollars. These are now considered highly collectible.

The tourists from Kansas Appear in Sandman # 31 on page 14.
