Lushing Lou (illustrated by Lars Brown)

In The Doll’s House, we are introduced to Hob Gadling, who throughout the centuries, becomes one of Dream’s only friends.

Dream and Hob began their centennial meeting, sometime between 1362-1370, I believe.

Around 1888-1889, Dream once again met Hob in a small pub in London.

As Dream approaches the door to the pub he is propositioned by a woman. She offers him a “quick bum-dance” and says she would let him give her a hard ride with his “cream-stick.” Dream declines and the woman insults him, calling him a “pasty-faced pussy-cove” and a “skinny chickaleary.”

When Dream sits down with Hob he remarks that the woman, Lushing Lou, is called “The Hospital” because she spends a lot of her time in hospitals and because she’s sent a lot of men to the hospitals because she has The Pox, which is otherwise known as Syphilis.

Lushing Lou appears in Sandman # 13, on page 21.
