Herschel

Hershel is a "super hero" known as The Amazing Hershel and he was interviewed by Mary Gentian during the period of nightmares, sleeplessness and insanity caused by John Dee controlling the Dream's ruby.

Hershel blamed the craziness on "rays," whatever that means.

Old Man

When Robert was lost in the sleeping city he would occasionally catch a glimpse of "flicker people" but for a long time never encountered a "real" person.

This Old Man is the first person that Robert met.

They met on a bridge when Robert mistook him for a pile of rags. They spent some time walking throughout the city and the Old Man explained to Robert that he believed that the city was simply asleep and expressed concern for a time when the city might wake. While walking the Old Man suddenly recognized recognized a familiar alley and ran towards it. When Robert approached the alley he discovered that the Old Man was gone and it was at this point he learned that he must search for a familiar location and perhaps that would help him escape the dreams of the city and lead him home.

This is one of my favorite pieces Scott has done. I hope you enjoy it as well.

The King Of Birds

When Nada began searching for the mysterious stranger who appeared outside of her palace she enlisted in the King Of Birds to help find this man.

This character is from one of my favorite Sandman stories from the entire series, Tales In The Sand, which appears in Sandman # 9, the first chapter in The Doll's House storyline.

"God" Serial Killer

This serial killer thinks of himself as a "merciful and just God." He feels that if he kills people it is releasing them from "the suffering and torment of their lives."

Um...yeah.

Scott did a fantastic job with this creepy serial killer.

Scott Free

Scott Free was visited by Dream one evening while he was dreaming about Apokolips and his escape from Granny Goodness.

Scott is particularly proud of this drawing. I can see why. It's a good one. Over the years Scott has drawn tons of super heroes and when taking on this massive Sandman project he mentioned that it would be nice to take a break from drawing super heroes for a tiny bit. Since he's started this project he's drawn four (Wildcat, Hector Hall, Urania Blackwell and Scott Free)...and there are still several more left to do. Secretly I think Scott enjoys that he still has the opportunity to draw super heroes.
