French Soldier Driver (illustrated by Anna Hybsier)

When Johanna Constantine is captured by the French soldiers Louise Antoine de St. Just comes to “rescue” her, but instead takes her to the Luxembourg, which is a prison for political prisoners.

This soldier is driving the carriage that takes her to the prison.

He appears in Sandman # 29, on page 8, in panel 1.

Anna drew this character with a lot of compassion. This French Soldier has very sad eyes and I really like that for this character. I imagine that he is familiar with the Luxembourg and is saddened to see a woman being taken to a prison where the sentenced citizens are usually executed.
