Sexton lives in an apartment in New York City with his mother Sylvia.

Down the hall from Sexton is a boy named Billy Ling who sits in the hallway, in his wheel chair, watching people pass him by. Sexton often stops and talks to him, although Billy cannot talk back.

After Didi dies, Sexton tells Billy about her. As they talk two boys run down the hallway, playing.
