Nightmare # 1 (illustrated by Anna Hybsier)

When Dream confronts John Dee in order to reclaim his stolen ruby he is forced to take his battle into the realm of dreams.

John Dee encounters a group of Soothsayers who warn him to “Beware the Ideas Of March” and “Beware the Brides Of Frankenstein.” Every nightmare he encounters twists into a nightmare wearing the helmet of the dream king.

This is one of those Nightmares he encounters as he tries to tear the Dreaming apart in order to find Morpheus.

This Nightmare appears in Sandman # 7, on page 13.

Anna did a great job with this portrait. The starkness of the character and the background definitely lends itself to reflect a dreamy quality. The helmet is bone-like and is horrifying.
