Hanged Man (illustrated by Max Rugers)

In Preludes And Nocturnes, Dream visits the three ladies (also known as The Fates or The Kindly Ones or the Three Graces or even The Three Witches) in order to determine where his stolen tools of his office are located.

To move through the Dreaming to get to the crossroads Morpheus must move through the dreams of people.

This Hanged Man comes from the dream of a young Japanese woman who is a fan of movies She is dreaming of some of the old Hammer horror films. I am not familiar enough with the Hammer horror films to know whether this is a reference to a particular film.

This character appears in Sandman # 2, on page 17 in panel 4.

This is a great portrait. Max did an excellent job creating this character without making it too graphic and horrific.
