American Man # 3 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

In Worlds’ End, Brant Tucker is stuck in Worlds’ End as a storm rages outside.

He wanders through the inn and encounters a man called The Seeker who tells him about a reality where Prez Rickard is the President Of The United States.

Prez became the youngest President Of The United States and surprised many people with the amount of work he did during his presidency.

During his first year as President he initiated talks in the Middle East.

This American man is one of the men who attended the meeting with the leaders of the Middle East during the talks.

He appears in Sandman # 54, on page 10, in panel 1.

I really like this portrait from Max. He gave this man a very distinctive personality, which is absolutely appropriate. I also like his use of yellow for the backgrounds. It’s an unusual color choice, but it’s very striking and I like it quite a lot.

Roman Citizen # 142 (illustrated by Ron Chan)

Augustus Caesar and the dwarf Lycius spend the day sitting on some steps near the marketplace dressed as beggars. As citizens pass they discuss politics, power and personal legacy.

This citizen is, one of many people, spending the afternoon in the Roman market near the steps where Caesar and Lycius are sitting.

He appears in Sandman # 30, page 13, and is panel 4.

Baku # 4 (illustrated by Lars Brown)

There is a tale that is told about a Monk and a Fox. Perhaps it is a fairy tale and perhaps a Monk and a Fox really fell in love and when the Monk was murdered the Fox took revenge for the death of her lover.

We will never know for sure, but it has been said that sometimes if you dream and journey to the distant regions of the dreaming where the Baku graze you might catch a glimpse of a Man and a fox walking across the plains…

This is one of the Baku that grazes in the distant regions of The Dreaming.

The Baku appear in the P. Craig Russel version of Dream Hunters…in issue # 4, on page 29, in panel 1.

Serial Killer # 50 (illustrated by Te’Shawn Dwyer)

I would like to introduce the newest member of the Sandman Portraits Team.

Te'Shawn Dwyer is an artist from Toronto, Canada. A friend of mine introduced me to his art after getting a few commissions from him. I was immediately taken by his dramatic style and incredibly expressive line work. Thankfully he was interested in doing some portraits for me. I suspect you will be seeing a lot of Te'Shawn's work in the future. You can find him at his website and on DeviantArt. He is incredibly friendly and super excited about doing art. Stop by his site and buy his art. You'll be happy you did.

In The Doll's House, Serial Killers from all over the country gather for the cereal convention held in a hotel in an unknown location.

This serial killer is one of the many people who attended this convention.

He can be seen in Sandman # 14, on page 13 in panel 5. He is sitting in the opening ceremonies panel where Nimrod, one of the organizers, is laying out the ground rules for the convention.

Chess Table Girl (illustrated by Kai Martin)

When Sergei was a young boy he, along with his Uncle, Aunt and cousins had a picnic on a small island near Venice. He wandered off and encountered a woman near a gate, waiting for it to open. Sergei tried to pull it open for her.

Sergei returned to the island many years later and once again encountered the woman. This time, he was able to kick open the gate, allowing them to enter into Alain’s court, which had hidden itself from Death’s touch.

While Death and Sergei enter the court, Alain is in one of the rooms of his palace playing chess with a woman named Marie. They are using a nude woman, as a table for the chess board. One of Alain’s servants rushed into the chamber and announcing that people were dying. As he did so, the chess table girl raised up, spilling the chess pieces all over the floor.

The chess table girl appears in the Death story from Endless Nights on page 19.

This is a wonderful portrait from Kai. I love the expression on her face. She seems slightly bored. I like her hair and how it frames her face. I also like how the chess board is balanced on her back. It almost looks like it is stable, but could slide off her back at any moment.

Jamaican Man # 4 (illustrated by Kai Martin)

In Preludes And Nocturnes Daniel Bustamonte falls victim to the sleeping sickness that happens as a result of Roderick Burgess imprisoning of the King of Dreams.

Daniel spends a lot of his time on the streets, barely awake.

This Jamaican Man is one of the many people who pass by Daniel, in 1968, while he sleepwalks through his world.

He appears in Sandman # 1, on page 23, in panel 4.

This is a fantastic portrait by Kai. I really like the line work and shading on this character’s face. The reflection in his glasses and his large hat are both really a nice touches. Kai managed to give this character a personality and a depth outside of a minor background character.

Dead Man # 21 (illustrated by Carl Sciacchitano)

In The Sandman Special # 1, Orpheus journeys to the Underworld to rescue his recently deceased wife. Before standing before Lord Hades and Queen Persephone he encounters a large gathering of the dead.

This Dead Man is one of the many dead men in the Underworld.

He appears in The Song Of Orpheus, on page 31, in panel 4.

This is a great portrait from Carl. I love the “dead” expression on his face and his lifeless eyes. The use of gray for this portrait really accents the lifelessness of this character, although I do not know if that was intentional. I really like this portrait.
