Dead Man # 21 (illustrated by Carl Sciacchitano)

In The Sandman Special # 1, Orpheus journeys to the Underworld to rescue his recently deceased wife. Before standing before Lord Hades and Queen Persephone he encounters a large gathering of the dead.

This Dead Man is one of the many dead men in the Underworld.

He appears in The Song Of Orpheus, on page 31, in panel 4.

This is a great portrait from Carl. I love the “dead” expression on his face and his lifeless eyes. The use of gray for this portrait really accents the lifelessness of this character, although I do not know if that was intentional. I really like this portrait.
