Roman Citizen # 2 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

In August, Lycus recounts the day he spent with Emperor Augustus Caesar dressed as beggars sitting in the marketplace discussing politics, power and dreams.

While in the market, many citizens went about their daily lives without the knowledge that their emperor sat only a few feet away.

This man is one of the Roman citizens who was in the market that day.

He can be seen in Sandman # 30 on page 7 in panel 1. He is inspecting a bolt of cloth from a shop keeper.

I really like Max’s approach to this particular portrait. It has a very statuesque feel about it, but is very clearly Roman. This character has a perfect face…very angular and detailed. Here is Roman Citizen # 2…
