Worlds’ End Patron # 46 (illustrated by Lars Brown)

After Petrefax tells his tale, the innkeeper, Rajoguna, visits the table where Brant, Charlene, Cluracan, and others have gathered to tell stories and wait out the storm.

As she approaches the table she declares that Cluracan has had enough to drink.

This strange patron of Worlds’ End is standing in the background behind Rajoguna.

He appears in Sandman # 56 p. 1 panel 1.

Man At The Renaissance Festival # 19 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

When Hob and Gwen arrive at the Renaissance Fair he complains about the romanticized version of the era, in which he first made his deal with Death and Dream for immortality.

Gwen goes to the opening parade and Hob tells her that he will just wander around for a bit.

He visits Hinnegan the bookbinder and after being shown a book he made back in his previous life, he wanders over to the beer tent.

This man is in the background, near another tent, as he exits the Hinnegan’s tent.

He appears in Sandman # 73, on page 9, in panel 4.

Ghost Boy # 35 (illustrated by Kai Martin)

In Season Of Mists, Lucifer abdicates his position as the ruler of Hell and decides to send all of the residents away. He empties Hell of all the demons and tortured souls and locked the doors behind him as he leaves. Some of them returned to where they died, others went to visit their living relatives.

This Ghost Boy returned to St. Hilarion’s School For Boys.

He can be seen sitting in a classroom, in the back row, as Charles Rowland is in class.

The Ghost Boy appears in Sandman # 25, page 16, panel 1.

Roman Citizen # 8 (illustrated by Hayden Sengua)

Lycius visits the house of Augustus Caesar, where they put on make up and disguise themselves as beggars and spend the day sitting near the Roman marketplace.

As they walk to the market they pass by the Temple Of Avenging Mars. Lycius states that it is a lovely temple.

As they sit on the steps of the temple Lycius and Augustus talk about actors and that that day they will be beggars. Augustus tells Lycius that he does not like actors because their professions is “based on lies and disrespect. Pretending to be what you are not.” This is exactly what Lycius and Augustus are doing in the market place.

This Roman citizen is also walking passed the temple as they are talking about actors.

This Roman Citizen appears in Sandman # 30 on page 6, in panel 3.

Village Man # 13 (illustrated by Lars Brown)

In the Desire story in Endless Nights, Kara was in love with the son of the chief of the village.

After the death of the Chief, the village honored his life with three days of celebrations.

This is one of the citizens of the village who celebrated during the funeral revels.

He appears in Endless Nights, in the Desire story, on page 12, in panel 1.

Folk From Across The River # 19 (illustrated by Xaveria)

In the Desire story in Endless Nights, Kara was in love with the son of the chief of the village.

The Chief and a group of village elders tried to negotiate grazing rights, for amber and for the ransom of prisoners between their tribe and the folk from across the river, but negotiations went badly and ended with the death of the village chief.

Kara retrieves the song of the village chief and he assumes the role of leader of the village. He also marries Kara and spends the winter in the village. In spring, Kara’s husband and a group of soldiers go to meet with the chiefs of the other villages.

One day, a group of men arrived at the village, asking for hospitality. These were the folk from across the river and they had killed Kara’s husband and brought his head to threaten and scare the women of the village.

Kara remained calm and served the men food and wine until the soldiers who were on wolf-watch returned and slaughtered the invaders.

This man is one of the folk from across the river.

He appears in the “What I’ve Tasted Of Desire: from Endless Nights, on pages 16, panels 1 and 4 and on page 17 in panel 4.

Sven Karposian (illustrated by Max Rugers)

In 1939, Wesley Dodds visits England while investigating the suicide of his friend Linus Benchley and his investigation leads him to Fawney Rig, the home of Roderick Burgess.

Dodds and his girlfriend Dian Belmont attend a party thrown by Burgess.

Sven Karposian is one of the many guests at the party.

Dian and her friend Annabel first encounter Karposian as they are walking through the house toward the ballroom where the party is held. He introduces himself as Doctor Sven Karposian, the author of The Id And Repression and claims that he is the successor to Freud. He explains his philosophy to Dian and Annabell by saying “For me, when I need to stare at your chest, I do not repress it. I stare. Yes? With the eyes. Yes? To repress, that is weakness and madness also. Perhaps later we can do more than stare.”

Later, Dian encounters Sven again and she asks him about his psychoanalytic theory on guns. He says that guns represent the phallus and only men are soldiers and the different types of guns a man chooses would suggest what he thinks about his penis. Dian counters inquiring about a gun that projects green gas that makes people fall asleep, referring to The Sandman’s gun. Karposian responds “I have no theories.”

Once the party is over, Sven Karposian, along with all the other guests, retire to their rooms for the night. In his room, unable to repress his own desires for the ultimate sexual experience, plunges a fountain pen into his left eye. It was everything he had hoped it would be.
