Sven Karposian (illustrated by Max Rugers)

In 1939, Wesley Dodds visits England while investigating the suicide of his friend Linus Benchley and his investigation leads him to Fawney Rig, the home of Roderick Burgess.

Dodds and his girlfriend Dian Belmont attend a party thrown by Burgess.

Sven Karposian is one of the many guests at the party.

Dian and her friend Annabel first encounter Karposian as they are walking through the house toward the ballroom where the party is held. He introduces himself as Doctor Sven Karposian, the author of The Id And Repression and claims that he is the successor to Freud. He explains his philosophy to Dian and Annabell by saying “For me, when I need to stare at your chest, I do not repress it. I stare. Yes? With the eyes. Yes? To repress, that is weakness and madness also. Perhaps later we can do more than stare.”

Later, Dian encounters Sven again and she asks him about his psychoanalytic theory on guns. He says that guns represent the phallus and only men are soldiers and the different types of guns a man chooses would suggest what he thinks about his penis. Dian counters inquiring about a gun that projects green gas that makes people fall asleep, referring to The Sandman’s gun. Karposian responds “I have no theories.”

Once the party is over, Sven Karposian, along with all the other guests, retire to their rooms for the night. In his room, unable to repress his own desires for the ultimate sexual experience, plunges a fountain pen into his left eye. It was everything he had hoped it would be.

London Citizen # 24 (illustrated by Nicole Ingram)

Dian Belmont traveled to England in an attempt to avoid dealing with her boyfriend Wesley Dodds and his secret identity as The Sandman.

Her expectation of England was cricket fields and historic buildings and was shocked when she visited the East End. This area fill filled with poverty, drunkeness and brutality. She described the citizens as being poorly fed and that they have likely never taken a bath in their entire lives.

Dian was volunteering in a church helping the poor citizens of the city when Wesley Dodds, much to her surprise, shows up.

This man is one of the citizens of London that is standing behind Wesley Dodds as Dian accuses him of following her to London.

He appears in Sandman Midnight Theatre on page 16, in panel 1.

Baseball Fan # 18 (illustrated by Kai Martin)

After the death of Kathy, Prez Rickard spent more time in the White House and was seen less by the American people. He became despondent and did not have the same zest for his job as he once did.

One particular night, Prez turned on the television and was watching baseball. Boss Smiley appeared in his television, once again offering Prez anything he wanted, even his deceased wife, if he would only serve him.

This Baseball Fan in the crowd at the stadium during the baseball game. He was on the television prior to Boss Smiley hijacking the program.

He appears in Sandman # 54, on page 14 in panel 8.

Man # 74 (illustrated by Carl Sciacchitano)

While Barbie and Wanda ride the subway they encounter Maisie Hill, a homeless woman who is asking for spare change.

After seeing a dog on the subway, she screams and quickly exits the subway.

As she exists the subway and gets to the street she nearly runs into Martin Tenbones, the largest dog like creature she has ever seen.

This man is walking on the street and also sees Martin Tenbones.

He appears in Sandman # 32 on page 15, in panel 2.

Aurelian Citizen # 56 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

Cluracan is sent, by Queen Titania, to Aurelia to prevent an alliance between the numerous Plains.

He recalled Aurelia as being one of the greatest cities of the Plains. It was a city of influence and class. It has magnificent palaces and grand temples. The city has wide streets and fountains surrounded by green parks and beautifully carved marble statues. It was a glorious city to visit.

Unfortunately, when Cluracan returns many years after his previous visit, the city is not quite as glorious as he remembered. The city is now in ruins. The temples are in disrepair and some have collapsed. The streets are covered in filth. The citizens are despondent.

This man is one of the people wandering the streets as Cluracan arrives to the city.

He appears in Sandman # 52, on page 6, in panel 5.

Linus Benchley (illustrated by Lukas Ketner)

Linus Benchley was an American diplomat who is a friend of Wesley Dodds, who apparently was friends with Wesley’s father.

In 1939, Wesley visits him at his home in New York and they discuss Linus’ recent trip to London.

During their visit Wesley hears someone at the door and Linus goes to investigate. He returns with an envelope and looks concerned.

Linus cuts short the visit saying that he does not feel well.

Linus looks at the envelope and discovers some incrimidating photos. He puts the photos into the fireplace and then runs a bath for himself. As the water fills the bathtub Linus picks up the radio and enters the bath, electrocuting himself.

This tragedy prompts Wesley Dodds to go to England to unravel the mystery that led to his friend’s death.

Linus Benchley appears in Sandman Midnight Theatre on pages 3-10.

Bondage Girl # 22 (illustrated by Kai Martin)

In Brief Lives, Delirium is lost and wanders into a bondage club looking for a change.

In the club she encounters a woman named Lisa who looks a little like Death. Once she realizes that this woman is not her sister she becomes agitated and starts screaming that she wants her sister.

This woman is one of the women in the club who saw Delirium freak out.

She can be seen in Sandman # 41, on page 11, in panel 2.
