Dreamer # 51 (illustrated by Hayden Sengua)

And now for a special treat....

I would like to welcome Hayden Sengua to the Sandman Portraits Team!!!

Hayden has been drawing for almost as long as I've known him. He is an up and coming artist who is always experimenting with new techniques and mediums, which I am sure we will see here. I can't wait to show you some of the portraits he's done so far!!! You can find more of his work on his Instagram site.

His first character is Dreamer # 51...

In Dream Of A Thousand Cats, the Golden Haired Man told his fellow humans that if enough of them dreamed that men were superior to cats then it would become reality because “Dreams Shape The World.”

This man is one of the dreamers who dreamed that he could live in a world where cats were not the dominant species and that men would rule the world.

This Dreamer appears in Sandman # 18, on page 18 in panel 2.

Faery # 70 (illustrated by Xaveria)

This Faery is one of the many faeries that attends the first performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (written by William Shakespeare, as part of an agreement he has with Morpheus). The performance takes place on June 23, 1593 in Wilmington, England near The Long Man of Wilmington.

This Faery appears in Sandman # 19, on page 8, in panel 2. He is on the left, with his hands around his knees.

Man # 24 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

Destiny is the focus of one of the stories in Endless Nights and we get a short glimpse of the mysterious character.

Destiny’s book contains all of the history that has ever happened, that is happening and that will happen, for every person and creature with the entire universe.

This man is one of the many people that appear on the 5th page of this story. He is not necessarily a character, but more of a representation of everyone who appears within the pages of Destiny’s book.

Sky-Boy # 5 (illustrated by Nicole Ingram)

In ”Going Inside,” the Deliriuim story from Endless Nights, there is a writer who is affected by Delirium’s imbalance.

He writes stories about the Sky-Boys and their battle with Lord Kiss-&-Shah Of Hell and his army of Party Girls.

This is one of the Sky-Boys.

He appears on page 8 of “Going Inside” and is holding a very large machine gun.

Demon # 452 (illustrated by John Rapone)

This is one of the Demons that appear in Ramadan, inside the Globe Of Sulaiman Ben Daoud, which Haroun al Raschid threatens to shatter if The King of Dreams does not appear before him.

If this globe is broken, nine thousand and nine Ifrits, Djinn and Demons will be released into the world and cause untold chaos.

When Dream does not appear, al Raschid throws the globe over the walls of his palace and it falls to the earth.

This demon is one of the many demons eager to escape the globe as it falls to the streets below.

This Demon appears in Sandman # 50, on page 18, in panel 9.

Andros Rhodocanakis’ Wife (illustrated by Anna Hybsier)

Andros Rhodocanakis was the last of the guardians of Orpheus. He spent his entire life protecting Orpheus from harm, as his father and grandfather before him had done.

Andros’ wife makes a very brief appearance in Brief Lives. She is standing on the shore as their son, Kris, takes Dream and Delirium to the island where Destruction has been living.

She appears in Sandman # 47 on page 21 in panel 2.

Lizzie and the Tourists From Kansas # 1 & 2 (illustrated by Lars Brown)

Happy New Year!!!

To celebrate the new year I thought I would post a new portrait every hour-ish from 6:00am to 9:00pm. What better way to start the new year than seeing a bunch of new art?

I hope everyone has a fantastic start to 2018 and that it's better than last year!!!

In September 1859, Joshua Norton proclaimed that he was the first Emperor Of The United States.

Sixteen years after his reign began, in September 1875, he was walking in the park and three tourists from Kansas stopped Norton and asked if he was the Emperor. They asked if he still did “that money thing.” Emperor Norton charged $.50 for a $.50 note from the Imperial Government of Norton. The tourists were excited about their souvenier.

Norton actually did create his own currency, which apparently was accepted as local currency in San Francisco. This currency came in multiple demoninations between fifty cents and ten dollars. These are now considered highly collectible.

The tourists from Kansas Appear in Sandman # 31 on page 14.
