Dreamer # 13 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

As John Dee, inside his dream reality, attempts to destroy Morpheus, dreamers all over the world had troubled sleep. They whimpered and moaned and even screamed “as if caught in the darkest of nightmares.”

This is one of the dreamers who had was affected by John Dee’s hatred and chaos.

She appears in Sandman # 7, on page 13, in panel 4. She is too the right and is one of the more apparent dreamers.

Max, once again, did an awesome job with this portrait. It’s one of my favorites. I like his color choices and just the overall beauty of this sleeper. She is so elegant and lovely. One thing I really like about this project is that this character is barely even noticeable in the comic, but Max took this character and painted an amazing portrait of her. This is a perfect example of why I started this project in the first place!!!

Dead Man # 3 (illustrated by Lars Brown)

This Dead Man is another that Orpheus sees when he first enters the throne room of Lord Hades and Queen Persephone.

He is in The Sandman Special # 1 (Song Of Orpheus) page 31, panel 3. He is in the front row and is located on the right.

This is another great painting by Lars!!!

Fireman # 2 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

In Brief Lives, Dream and Delirium travel through the mortal world in search of their missing brother, Destruction.

Along the way they stop at a hotel to rest and during their stay the hotel catches on fire. This Fireman is one of the men who worked to extinguish the blaze.

He appears in Sandman # 44, on page 23 in panel 1. He is on the far left holding the fire hose.

This fire fighter does not have a name in the context of Sandman and so in my list of characters I simply called him Fireman # 2. Max did something pretty cool and completely unexpected with this character. He gave him a designation # 2 on his helmet. I really liked that nice little touch.

Vassily’s Father (illustrated by Russel Roehling)

Vassily lived with his father in the forest when he was a young boy.

One day while out hunting, Vassily came across an old peddler woman who had a bag filled with treasures that were unlike anything that Vassily had seen before. Vassilly’s Father found his son and the beggar woman taking in the forest and he told his son to return the trinkets.

Vassily’s father tried to tell him that the people who lived outside of the forest were not meant to be trusted and that they were poor and could not afford to waste their hard work on trinkets and baubles. Vassily, of course, didn’t listen.

For the next few days Vassily worked with his father on various tasks including hunting and gathering firewood, but one morning he left his home while his father was out hunting and, at least in the context of the story, did not return home.

Vassily’s Father appears on several pages of Sandman # 38. He is most notably on page 5 in panel 3.

This is a wonderful portrait from Russel. I like the details he put into this portrait. The line work in his clothing makes it look like it’s really worn or that it was hand made from deer skin, which it probably was. This is a great portrait.

Demon # 228 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

When Morpheus goes to Hell to find his stolen helmet, he sweeps through the group of demons to find who currently is in possession of his tool of office.

This is one of the demons in the crowd.

He appears in Sandman # 4, on page 13, panel 4. He is barely visible on the left side of the panel hidden behind Morpheus’ arm.

Max did a fantastic job with this portrait. He used tape to add texture to this character. Although it is not obvious from the scan, Max used a silver paint on this demon, which adds a sparkle to the character. I really like this portrait.

Hazel’s Dream Baby (illustrated by Emonic)

When George releases the starlings to haunt the dreams of the women living in the apartment building that Barbie also lives in, Hazel has a horrific dream.

Hazel dreams that she is on a train and the ticket inspector tells her that she must go into the train’s cellar. She won a present with her ticket. Inside the box is a baby. It is dead and has been dead for 70 years. Foxglove is also there and she has a little baby as well. Both mothers are happy and love their babies. Hazel’s baby moves and crawls over to Foxglove’s baby and begins to use its mouth to tear the flesh off the newborn.

Hazel’s Dream baby appears in the A Game Of You storyline in Sandman # 33, page 14 and 15.

This is another great portrait from Emonic. I love the details of this portrait and he did a great job giving this character the dreamlike horribleness that one would experience if they had a dream similar to Hazel's nightmare.

Faery # 6 (illustrated by Max Rugers)

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in posting. It's been a crazy couple of weeks here, not all good, but I'm going to try to start posting again regularly. It's time...

First up is one of the Faeries from Max.

This Faery is one of the many faeries that attends the first performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (written by William Shakespeare, as part of an agreement he has with Morpheus). The performance takes place on June 23, 1593 in Wilmington, England near The Long Man of Wilmington.

This Faery appears in Sandman # 19, on page 8, in panel 2. He is on the left, with his hands around his knees.

Max did an awesome job with this Faery. I love the pattern used for the background, which was made from tape and then painted. It gives the Faery a recesses look and adds a level of contrast to the character. The colors on the Faery are deep and beautiful. This is a great portrait!!!
